Living on Colorado's front range provides the perfect back drop for a private outdoor space. See how our influencer Jaimi from @jaimi.stewart decorated her outdoor space using practical home décor pieces.

Are you spending more time outside these days? Perhaps more time in your own yard or outdoor space? I know we are and I have enjoyed making our outdoor spaces feel more home-like.

I want to show you what a difference a few well-chosen pieces can make in our outdoor spaces by bringing some of the indoors out. After all, extending your home out onto your patio, deck, or yard makes your home feel more spacious. It also makes your outdoor areas feel more complete and hospitable.

For this project, I really wanted to spruce up three outside areas of our home including the front yard, the back deck (and our primary eating area), as well as the conversation area. The spaces function just fine, but lack color, personality, and visual interest.

Our front yard before decorating:

Pre Front Yard

With the help of AFW home décor and outdoor departments, I found some simple items that make these three spaces feel more complete and homey. For the front yard, using only three planters, one side table, and two outdoor pillows, I was able to add some punches of color, different design elements, and a more welcoming atmosphere.

You can make simple changes that create a big impact! For the back deck eating area I found a few items for the table as well as added a rolling bar cart. The bar cart is handy for dining outside. When we entertain, it provides an additional surface in order to get food and beverage service off the table. The cart can be used for other things too like for kids art supplies when they want to paint outside. Or a place to put water bottles, sunscreen, and gardening gloves while I pull weeds.

The conversation area really is a true extension of the indoor space. Because the coffee table is a woven material, it really isn’t functional to place items on because it’s not very supportive. But the tray solves that problem while adding a decorative element. It’s functional to place food and beverages on, as well as decorative items. The candle holder can hold a citronella candle to keep bugs away, and the cactus is just fun.

It doesn’t take much to layer in some color, personality, and feelings of home in the great outdoors. Go visit AFW today (in person or online!) and see what catches your eye to brighten up your patio, deck, or yard.
