Description

  • Image was taken at The Paint Mines near Calhan Colorado.
  • Early morning just after sunrise.
  • The name "Paint Mines" comes from the native American Indians who used the colors in the hard clay rocks to make different colors of "paint" for decoration, hundreds of years ago."
  • In this image it is interesting to note that there are many stacks of little flat rocks stacked on top of each other and placed basically everywhere.
  • These are meant as direction finders to guide people who are lost on a trail, get back to where they started out from.
  • Families teach their children here how to make these direction finders so they never lose their way home.
  • As you can see, there are multiple direction finders.
  • I have counted 30, but their could be a few more. How many can YOU count?
  • Hang only from attached hangers. Do not use wire to hang.

Colorado

My wife and I moved from Texas 15 years ago because we loved the mountains here in Colorado. We've vacationed here a couple of times and we were awestruck by the beauty that was here. So we decided to move here and I wanted to document on film, (and now on digital format), the beauty of Colorado, and I have since found this to be my passion. Photographing the landscape is a lot of hard work, (looking for the most dramatic composition, and then waiting for just the right light before you snap the shutter),but it is also extremely rewarding for me. It is my hope that anyone who views my images will see the same beauty that I see, and be inspired to get outdoors and enjoy the magnificent scenery that is here in this state, and maybe even do some photographing themselves!
