AFW's Newest Location is a Big Part of Phoenix's Retail Renaissance

Downtown & Central Phoenix are poised for a true retail renaissance, as the city gains thousands of new residents annually. Retailers, corporations, and residential buildings are flocking towards Phoenix's central city, and American Furniture Warehouse will be no exception.

While AFW has traditionally built or opened store locations near major highways, we’ve chosen the Christown Spectrum Mall as the location for our first urban-centered showroom.

“Our newest store will be able to better serve our many customers in Phoenix. We will deliver the same great prices, and the same great service that we do at our Gilbert and Glendale stores.”
- Jake Jabs, AFW Founder and CEO

But this location is truly special, because customers will be able to easily get to the store on foot, or by public transit, thus giving every customer uncomplicated access to the showroom.

Over our 47 years in business, AFW has earned a reputation for dedication to the communities in which our stores are located.

“My neighbors in District 4 have been so excited about the new American Furniture Warehouse opening at Christown Spectrum Mall,” said Phoenix Vice Mayor Laura Pastor. “It is a vote of confidence and a community commitment that AFW has decided to fill the gap and put its new concept store into the old Costco. It means that those of us living downtown and in central Phoenix now have the kind of store that used to require driving cross-town.”

And diversification of the neighborhood surrounding the Christown Spectrum Mall benefits not only AFW, but the city of Phoenix, and its rapidly growing number of residents. The Phoenix City Council has designated this area and Maryvale as major targets for a commercial renaissance.

“This is exciting news for families in downtown and central Phoenix, and for all of us in the city,” said Christine Mackay, director, Phoenix Community and Economic Development. “AFW will be the only major warehouse furniture store located close to hundreds of thousands of families in Phoenix’s urban core. This groundbreaking decision by the chain to take over the former Costco not only adds to the variety of businesses at the mall but is a vote of confidence in how this area of the city is a growing renaissance zone of new businesses, new restaurants, new residents, and renovation to existing buildings in the area.”

American Furniture Warehouse will open its doors to the community on July 30 2022.
